Here’s a lost jewel from Diamond District’s Uptown XO featuring the other MMG’s big spitter Wale. The original track (sans Wale) was produced by Oddisee, but for the new version XO recruited Diamond District brother yU to show off his production skills, then had Wale drop a verse. Uptown XO’s current album “Colour de Grey” is available everywhere.

Michigan producer 14KT is preparing to release his newest project “Nickel & Dimed" (9/3), a 15 track instrumental album featuring a bonus vocal versions Ep featuring Blu, Black Milk, MED, Kokane, JMSN, Jamall Bufford (Buff1), Ozay Moore (Othello). The first single, “Crown” featuring Black Milk & MED has been described as “a neck-breaker of a track accentuated by a sharp boom-bap drum loop, wavering synthesizers, and fuzzy guitar lines. The “Crown,” in this case, sits firmly atop the head of 14KT, an apostle of J Dilla’s school of beats. It’s a banger, sure, but it’s also meticulously layered, composed, and textured much like the remainder of Nickel & Dimed.”
The digital album is available for pre-order now at iTunes. The CD comes on a special Spot 3D w/ Silver Ink package available for pre-orders.

Video: F. Stokes | “Shaka Zulu”
Critical Praise for F.Stokes:
”F.Stokes is a gifted lyricist." - Potholes In My Blog
”F.Stokes is a one of the most in-demand names on the festival circuit right now." - Village Voice
Chicago wordsmith F.Stokes shares a driving sense of purpose in the new video for “Shaka Zulu,” a standout track from his recent album Fearless Beauty that was produced by Doomtree member Paper Tiger. Amid a grainy, grimy backdrop that is true to the Windy City, Stokes issues his rallying cry: “I’m fighting ‘til we all free/Shaka Zulu.”
”Location was everything,” he muses when he looks back at the video. “This video was inspired, physically, by the landscape of my neighborhood, and how aesthetically and habitably the Southside of Chicago relates to an African jungle.” This parallel extends beyond the physical street corner, into the psyches of the young men and women seen throughout the video: “I had to show the world the faces of those babies on the Southside of Chicago. I thought some of the closeups gave a reminder to the globe that even though the cloud of violence lingers, innocent resonates through the eyes of these young soldiers.”
F.Stokes will be sharing his inspiration live this weekend when he performs at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, alongside legendary artists like DasEFX, Redman, Pusha T, EPMD, and others.
